Building Disaster Resilient Communities in Nepal (UTTHANSHIL) project

The Building Disaster Resilient Communities in Nepal (UTTHANSHIL) project aims to enhance disaster preparedness and response in targeted municipalities. The project involves various activities such as conducting interaction meetings with municipalities to integrate project plans into municipal sectoral plans, forming or reforming Ward Disaster Management Committees, training Gender and Inclusion champions, and (re)forming community disaster management committees and local volunteer groups.

Additionally, the project raises awareness among local leaders on local level planning processes and mainstreaming DRRM in sectoral planning, mobilizes communities and stakeholders in disaster simulation exercises, and trains CDMC members on prioritizing and making demands for DRRM, resilience, early warnings, and GESI in local level planning. The project also provides capacity building trainings to CDMCs and taskforces for accessing and disseminating early warnings, alerts, and advisories, conducts market risk assessments and prepares business continuity plans, and supports the development of Multi Hazards Early Warning System Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and Common Alert Protocol at the provincial government level.

Furthermore, the project assists municipal governments in localizing DRRM Acts, policies, and frameworks, develops GESI-focused local level DRRM plans, budgets, and activities guides, and raises awareness on accessing weather information, alerts, and advisories. The project also trains and mobilizes Youth Volunteers to increase access to early warnings for marginalized groups and updates/creates geological and hydrometeorological hazards, risks, and vulnerabilities maps of vulnerable communities.
